The new iPhone 17 series will be launched in 2025, but leaks regarding this cellphone are already starting to emerge. The latest rumors reveal that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will bring a quite significant camera upgrade.

Jeff Pu, an analyst who often covers companies in Apple’s supply chain, said the iPhone 17 Pro Max will likely feature a 48 MP telephoto camera, as quoted from MacRumors, Monday (18/12/2023).

He added that the 48 MP telephoto camera on the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be optimized for use in conjunction with the Apple Vision Pro headset which will be launched in the United States in early 2024. However, Pu did not explain the form of optimization or the lens that will be used.

Currently the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have a 48 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultrawide camera and a 12 MP telephoto camera. Thanks to the iOS 17.2 update, these two cellphones can record spatial video with 3D depth which can be played on Vision Pro.

Pu previously said that the iPhone 16 Pro will be equipped with a 48 MP ultrawide camera and the iPhone 15 Pro already has a 48 MP main camera. If this rumor is accurate, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the first iPhone to have all rear cameras with a resolution of 48 MP.

Apart from the telephoto camera update, Pu also claims that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will be equipped with a Wi-Fi 7 chip made by Apple. This new chip is predicted to threaten Broadcom, which currently supplies Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips for iPhones.

Pu believes that Apple will present its Wi-Fi chip for all iPhone 18 variants in 2026. However, he did not share additional information about the chip.

Of course, the new iPhone 17 series will be launched in the fall of 2025, which is still two years away. Apple’s plans are still not final and may change in the future.
