Official! WhatsApp Users Can No Longer Take Screenshots of Profile Photos

In February 2024, WhatsApp tested a new privacy feature in the beta version to help protect user profile photos from criminal acts.

Now this feature has been officially rolled out to the regular version of WhatsApp, namely the ability to prevent users from taking screenshots or screenshots of profile photos.

This will provide better security for users and greater control over who can access their content.

In beta testing, attempts to take a screenshot would give a black screen along with the words ‘unable to take screenshot due to app restrictions.

Now on the stable version of WhatsApp, users who want to make this effort will get the same message.

When TechViral tries to take a screenshot of the profile photo, WhatsApp does not display a black screen but still gives a pop-up saying ‘This application does not allow screenshots’

We also noted that while we couldn’t screenshot individual profile pictures, when we tried to take a profile picture in a group chat, WhatsApp still allowed it to be taken. However, to take profile photos of each member of the WhatsApp group, permission is not given.

While this feature was launched, there is no further detailed information such as whether this feature is optional or not so there is no way to disable it if users still allow other people to take screenshots of their profile picture.

This is not the first feature to help protect user privacy on WhatsApp, previously there were options such as changing profile photo privacy settings, one-view media, and status privacy settings.

However, this is a step forward in helping provide users with a more secure messaging app, and it’s likely that more users will start seeing this feature on their devices in the coming weeks.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra was photographed from outer space, this is the result

Samsung shows off the capabilities of the Galaxy S24 Ultra camera in a unique way. The latest flagship cellphone from Samsung was flown into the stratosphere to take photos from extreme heights.

Techviral reports Samsung installed four Galaxy S24 Ultras into specially designed carbon fiber cages, which were then placed in four different helium-powered balloons.

These balloons were flown from the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains to capture the diverse landscape of the west coast of the United States.

The balloons carried the Galaxy S24 Ultra to a height of 120,000 feet or around 36 km. Technically, the Galaxy S24 Ultra does not reach outer space, the limit of which is 100 km, but the distance reached is quite high because you can already see the curvature or curvature of the Earth.

The hydrogen that powered the balloons gradually ran out, and after a few days the four Galaxy S24 Ultra slowly descended to Earth with the help of a parachute, as quoted from Android Authority, Thursday (7/3/2024).

Currently, The Samsung Galaxy S24 Cellphone Camera Is The Best

During several days in the stratosphere, the Galaxy S24 Ultra took more than 150 photos using the ultrawide camera and main camera at 1x, 3x and 5x zoom. The resulting photos can be seen below:

The Galaxy S24 Ultra camera managed to clearly capture the darkness of outer space and the curvature of the Earth. This cellphone can also take photos of various geographic features on the Earth’s surface, such as rivers, canyons and snow-covered mountains.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is the most expensive and most sophisticated cellphone in the latest Galaxy S line. This cellphone is equipped with a 200 MP main camera and optical zoom of up to 5x.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra also supports Space Zoom 100x which has been part of the Galaxy S line since it was first introduced on the Galaxy S20 Ultra. If this feature is usually used to photograph the Moon, this time the Galaxy S24 Ultra was used to photograph the Earth from a height.

Foldable smartphones are predicted to become increasingly popular in 2024

Folding cellphones are now increasingly popular with the wider public. It is predicted that in 2024, the trend of foldable smartphones will continue to increase.

From a report made by TechViral, as seen on Sunday (25/2/2024), in 2023, global foldable phone shipments will reach 15.9 million units, marking an increase of 25% YoY (years on years) and covering around 1.4% of the entire smartphone market.

In 2024 deliveries are expected to increase to around 17.7 million units, growing by 11% and increasing market share slightly to 1.5%. But this growth rate is still below market expectations with the segment expected to only exceed 2% by 2025.

There are two factors that could cause the slowdown in the growth of this folding cellphone. Firstly, due to the low durability of folding cellphones, this is what causes a lack of user trust in the product. Then, the second factor is the price which is still not in line with the majority of consumers’ pockets.

Techviral said the future of the foldable cellphone market is influenced by the pace of cost optimization. Key components such as UTGs and hinges can be mass produced after being standardized, thereby reducing costs significantly.

Additionally, increased shipments of folding panels by Chinese panel manufacturers offer price advantages over Korean suppliers. It is expected to further reduce the price of foldable phones, this will allow brands to lower selling prices and choose to accelerate the rate of market penetration.

Samsung Leads the Market, Huawei is a Serious Competitor

Samsung is still the market leader even though their market share dropped from 80% in 2022 to under 70% the following year, while Huawei’s shipments increased to 12%. Brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo are still below 10%.

Looking ahead to 2024, Samsung is determined to maintain its foldable cellphone market share at around 60%, similar to their target in 2023. In contrast to Huawei, which is aggressively increasing its foldable cellphone shipments with a target of market share exceeding 20%.

Specifically, Oppo and Vivo have indicated that they are postponing plans to launch a smaller, vertically foldable device this year. Both chose to channel their efforts into larger, horizontally foldable models due to concerns that too high costs would impact their bottom line.

On the other hand, Huawei is on track to launch a small vertical foldable device that has 5G capabilities, this will be their debut in the compact foldable device sector and will enter the competition this year.

Although many smartphone brands have jumped into the foldable phone arena, one brand that is absent is Apple. They have not officially announced their plans for a foldable phone, although there are reports that Apple is assessing key components for a foldable device, including requesting samples and testing for panels and hinges.

TrendForce assesses that this information is still not certain that Apple will start developing their foldable cellphone products. Despite this, Apple’s potential entry into the foldable cellphone market could stimulate significant market growth.

Instagram: A Visual Powerhouse Shaping the Social Media Landscape

From its humble beginnings as a photo-sharing app in 2010, Instagram has transformed into a global phenomenon, shaping the way we connect, consume information, and even do business. With over 2 billion monthly active users, it’s become a visual powerhouse impacting individuals, businesses, and culture at large. Let’s delve into the world of Instagram and explore its multifaceted influence.

A Shift in Social Sharing:

Instagram revolutionized social media by prioritizing visuals over text. Images and videos became the primary language, fostering a more immediate and engaging platform. This visual storytelling resonated deeply with users, leading to a shift from text-heavy platforms like Facebook. The rise of Instagram stories further fueled this trend, offering fleeting glimpses into daily lives and fostering fleeting connections.

The Rise of Influencers and Content Creators:

Instagram empowered individuals to become content creators, building communities and even turning their passions into professions. Influencers emerged, specializing in various niches like fashion, travel, food, and fitness. Brands saw the potential of influencer marketing, collaborating with these digital tastemakers to reach targeted audiences in an authentic way. This democratization of content creation fostered diverse voices and perspectives, shaping trends and cultural conversations.

A Boon for Businesses:

Instagram became a crucial marketing tool for businesses of all sizes. From showcasing products and services to interacting with customers directly, it offered a platform for building brand awareness and fostering loyalty. The introduction of shoppable posts and features like Instagram Live further facilitated commerce, blurring the lines between social media and online shopping.

Evolving Trends and Challenges:

As with any social media platform, Instagram faces challenges like misinformation, unrealistic beauty standards, and mental health concerns. The platform is continually evolving, introducing features like fact-checking and content moderation tools to address these issues. Additionally, the rise of short-form video platforms like TikTok poses competition, pushing Instagram to adapt and innovate to retain its user base.

Looking Ahead:

Instagram’s future seems bright. The platform continues to innovate, introducing new features like Reels and augmented reality filters to keep users engaged. With its focus on visual storytelling and community building, Instagram is likely to remain a major player in the social media landscape, shaping how we connect and engage with the world around us.

Here are some additional points to consider:

  • The impact of Instagram on mental health, particularly among young users, is a growing concern.
  • The platform’s algorithms and content moderation practices are constantly debated, with concerns about transparency and bias.
  • The increasing focus on video content reflects broader trends in social media consumption.
  • Despite challenges, Instagram continues to offer unique opportunities for individuals and businesses alike.

Instagram’s journey from a photo-sharing app to a global phenomenon is a testament to its ability to connect with users through powerful visuals and foster dynamic communities. As it continues to evolve, Instagram will undoubtedly influence our social interactions, cultural trends, and even the way we do business in the years to come.

WhatsApp Will Sync Locked Chats Across Devices

The WhatsApp messaging platform, which has many users, is now reportedly working on a new security feature to further strengthen its users’ privacy.

This new feature will synchronize chat keys across all devices connected to the user’s account as reported by TechViral from Gizmochina.

Simply put, if a user decides to lock a conversation on a smartphone, then the lock will also be applied to the same conversation when accessed via WhatsApp on a computer, tablet or other connected device.

This update was first noticed by WABetaInfo, a reliable source for WhatsApp updates. This was discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android 2.24.4.14, which is available for download to all registered beta testers via the Google Play Store.

WhatsApp introduced the ability to lock certain chats last year. They then introduced another feature called Secret Lock, which allows users to set a unique password that is different from their device password.

This password hides the locked chat folder, making it invisible to anyone who doesn’t know the code.

However, the downside of this feature is that it is a device-specific setting. This means that these keys must be set separately on each of your computer and mobile devices and are not automatically synced.

The upcoming changes will simplify this process, and automatically expand users’ security options across all platforms where WA is used.

Additionally, WhatsApp recently confirmed that they will allow cross-platform messaging through their platform. This means users will be able to send messages between WhatsApp, Telegram, or Signal, and vice versa. However, this feature will likely only be available in Europe.

Comparison of Oppo Find N3 Flip and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

Even though it has been around for a long time, not many cellphone manufacturers are working on folding screen cellphones. For example, in folding screen phones with clamshell models currently, there are only two big names playing, namely Oppo and Samsung.

From Oppo, the newest variant is the Find N3 Flip, while from Samsung the newest is the Galaxy Z Flip 5. What is the comparison between these two folding screen phones? Come on, take a look at the following review.

Design

In terms of dimensions, at first glance, these two phones look similar. However, if you look in more detail, the Z Flip 5 is indeed smaller and lighter than the N3 Flip, there isn’t much of a difference. The thickness of the Z Flip 5 when closed is 15.1mm and 6.9 mm when open.

Meanwhile, the N3 Flip is 7.8 mm thick when opened and 16.5 mm when closed. The weight is 9 grams apart, namely the Z Flip 5 is lighter at 187 grams.

Then the outer screen. Oppo and Samsung carry different styles in this section. Oppo uses a screen with a conventional shape, with a 3.26 inch AMOLED panel. Meanwhile, Samsung “finished” the outside with a 3.4 inch screen, except for the area for the camera module.

The N3 Flip’s smaller screen makes it more comfortable to operate with one hand. Then the interface feels more interactive and supports more applications that can be operated directly from the outside. Even though Samsung does provide the Good Lock application to bring more applications to the external screen, the setup process is quite complicated.

Hinge

Well, this hinge can be said to be one of the most important components of a folding cellphone. And, Oppo claims that the Flexion Hinge on the N3 Flip is made of stainless steel material, and is promised to be strong when opened and closed up to one million times. Meanwhile, Samsung only promises that the Z Flip 5’s hinge will last 200 thousand times opening and closing.

Flexion Hinge N3 Flip also creates screen crease marks that are less visible than on the Z Flip 5. The crease marks are of course still visible, but they are clearly more minimal. Oh yes, both the N3 Flip and Z Flip 5 screens can be closed tightly without any gaps.

Screen

The N3 Flip uses a 6.8 inch LTPO AMOLED panel, slightly larger than the Z Flip 5 which uses a 6.7 inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X. Both have FHD+, 120Hz and HDR10+ resolution. However, on paper, this Samsung screen has a higher brightness level, namely 1,750 nits compared to 1,600 nits on the Oppo.

System on a chip and battery

The system on a chip (SoC), or commonly referred to as the processor, used by these two cellphones comes from different manufacturers. Samsung chose Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from Qualcomm, while Oppo chose Dimensity 9200 from MediaTek.

Both use 4nm architecture, LPDDR5X RAM, and UFS 4.0 storage. The N3 Flip RAM has a capacity of 12GB, while the Z Flip 5 only has 8GB. How’s the performance? From Tech Viral testing, the AnTuTu Find N3 Flip score reached one million. So, even though it is a folding screen cellphone, its performance is still fast and you can even play heavy games like Genshin Impact smoothly. And of course, you can get through daily use without slowing down, with satisfactory battery life.

In the battery sector, the N3 Flip is quite superior because it has a larger capacity battery and greater charging support. Namely 3,700 mAh versus 4,300 mAh, and 25W charger versus 44W. However, the Z Flip 5 supports wireless charging up to 15W and reverse wireless charging 4.5W. Another advantage of Oppo is that it includes a charging adapter that is much larger than the 65Watt power the device receives.

Camera

In this section, it must be admitted that Oppo has quite a big advantage. The three cameras on the N3 Flip were designed by Hasselblad, and consist of a main camera with a 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor with OIS, a 48MP ultrawide camera with a 114 degree field of view, and a 32MP portrait camera with 2x optical zoom. Then the selfie camera is 32MP.

Meanwhile, the Z Flip 5 still has a camera system similar to the previous Z Flip series. Namely a pair of 12MP cameras on the back for the main camera (with OIS) and ultrawide, as well as a 10MP selfie camera.

With relatively the same price, namely IDR 15,999,000 (12GB/256 variant on the Find N3 Flip and 8GB/256GB on the Galaxy Z Flip 5), these two cellphones have their own advantages and disadvantages. However, we think the Find N3 Flip provides a more enjoyable user experience.

Yes, in terms of the SoC used, the Z Flip 5 benchmark results are slightly superior, but that doesn’t mean the Find N3 Flip is a slower cellphone. The reason is, in the tests we carried out, Genshin Impact with high settings and a frame rate of 60 could be run smoothly by the Find N3 Flip. Oh yes, the battery is bigger and charging is also faster.

Spotify Accuses Apple of Extortion

Spotify again made a strong statement against Apple, this time they called Apple’s steps to comply with new European Union rules a joke.

In a post on their official website, Spotify said that the application installation fees charged by Apple were clearly extortion. Apple is said to be forcing developers not to leave their App Store.

Apple calls this payment scheme the Core Technology Fee, which is charged for installing applications from outside the App Store. Yes, specifically for the European market, Apple is forced to allow the installation of applications from outside the App Store to comply with new rules from the European Union.

However, they charge an installation fee of 0.5 euros per application per year for each application that has exceeded the number of installations of 1 million.

According to Spotify, this new tax from Apple will burden developers, especially developers who provide their applications for free, for example Spotify, whose applications can be downloaded for free but users have to pay a subscription fee to enjoy premium services.

“From the Apple proposal that we read, developers will still have to pay this fee even if users download the application, never use it, and forget to delete it,” wrote Spotify.

Spotify users on Apple have decreased

Not only that, they also criticized the 17% commission that must be paid to Apple from developers who choose to use third-party payment services. What’s more, Spotify is planning to release its own payment system.

“Spotify is facing an unsustainable problem. With the number of installs on Apple’s platform for the EU at around 100 million, this tax system for downloads and updates could make our consumer acquisition costs skyrocket,” wrote Spotify CEO Daniel Ek in X.

“Under these new regulations, we cannot afford these costs if we want to be a profitable company, so our only option is to stick with the status quo,” he continued.

In his question, Apple spokesperson Fred Sainz admitted that Apple is ready to support the success of all developers, including Spotify. “Changes to the revenue sharing system for apps in the European Union give developers choice — with options for iOS app distribution and payment processing,” Sainz said.

“Every developer can choose to stick with the old rules. And under the new rules, more than 99% will pay more or less the same or perhaps lower fees to Apple,” he continued.

Instagram Warns Users If Playing for More Than 10 Minutes

Instagram has revealed a new feature targeted at teen users. So when teenage users scroll Instagram for more than 10 minutes, Meta’s platform will suggest that they close the application and go to sleep.

Is a Nighttime Nudges feature, this will automatically appear on teenage user accounts. Instagram says the i feature is to give teens who haven’t used features like Take a Break reminders to close the app at night.

“We want teenagers to leave Instagram feeling that the time they spend on this application is meaningful and intentional, and we know that sleep is very important for young people,” said Instagram as reported by TechViral from Engadget, Friday (19/1/ 2024).

Instagram says this feature cannot be disabled but also does not explain whether this feature is activated for all teenagers or only teenagers under 18 years old.

This new feature follows others Instagram has rolled out to help teens and their parents manage time spent on the app. Along with the Take a Break feature and parental controls, it also includes Quiet Mode.

The latter feature allows teens to mute notifications, automatically reply to messages, and let their friends and followers know that they’re inactive and doing something else, like studying or sleeping.
