Shock! Samsung Shows Off Galaxy Ring Smart Ring

Samsung has long marketed smartwatches and wearable devices. However, at the end of the Unpacked event which launched the Galaxy S24, a glimpse of Samsung’s next wearable device product, namely the Galaxy Ring, was shown.

This Galaxy Ring looks like a ring. In fact, smart rings are nothing new, but they are not as popular as smart watches. The Oura ring, for example, is a favorite of celebrities like Kim Kardashian, and the Evie smart ring from Movano was designed with women’s health in mind,

From the information provided, the Galaxy Ring seems to be one part of Samsung’s strategy to create a network of devices that can provide information to the Samsung Health application, for a more complete picture of user habits.

At first glance, the Galaxy Ring looks like ordinary jewelry, until you look at the tiny sensors and electronics inside. Digital Health Samsung Research, Matthew Wiggins said that the Galaxy Ring is a smart ring that is equipped with various features commonly found in the Samsung Health application.

The Next Gen Of Galaxy Samsung

“This is the Galaxy Ring, a device we created for a better life, as well as a device to access various Samsung-style health features in the future,” added Wiggins.

There’s still a lot that’s unknown about the Ring, like when it will launch, how much it will cost, what type of sensor it will have, and what health metrics it will collect. But the Ring is another means for Samsung to carry out its health strategy.

The ring is circular and black. Since it is a smart wearable device, it will likely be able to track a number of health metrics just like a typical wearable device. And because it doesn’t have a screen, its battery life should be better than a smartwatch.

Galaxy S24 Ultra is supported by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. The use of this chipset provides increased NPU for efficient AI processing.

LPDDR5x 12 RAM is embedded in it which can be enlarged with the RAM Plus feature. Meanwhile, the internal memory has a capacity of up to 1 TB, UFS 4.0 type.

The main camera is 200 MP equipped with OIS, accompanied by a 12 MP ultra-wide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x zoom capability, and a 10 MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom. Following Apple, Google Removes Crypto Applications in India

Following Apple’s steps, Google has also removed crypto currency applications from the Google Play Store application store such as Binance and OKEx.

The reason is because the application fails to comply with government regulations. Where the Indian financial regulator stated that these applications were operating illegally.

On December 28, 2022, India’s Financial Intelligence Unit issued a notice to Binance, OKEx, and several other global crypto exchanges directing them to register with Indian authorities.

The notification states that any exchange providing services to Indian users will have to register as a reporting entity and submit reports to the income tax department.

Such failure to comply with these regulations, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology blocked access to the exchange’s website.

Even though the application has been removed from the Play Store, Binance assured existing users that their accounts and funds remain safe and accessible as reported by Techviral from Crypto Times, Tuesday (16/1/2024).

The crackdown comes after India imposed a 30% tax on  transactions and a 1% tax cut on trading last year, causing trading volumes to fall as users migrated to overseas exchanges with lower tax rates.

India approved this stringent crypto tax law in March 2022 in an attempt to regulate the rapidly growing crypto market. Each trade is taxed separately, losses cannot offset gains, and traders must report their holdings.

By taking down major global apps like Binance and OKEx, Indian authorities continued their efforts to control crypto trading and enforce local tax laws. The outcome remains uncertain for India’s growing crypto community.

Apple Cuts Price of iPhone 15, Impact of Sluggish Sales?

Apple made a surprise after just cutting the price of the iPhone 15 series in China. This rare discount comes after analysts reported iPhone sales dropping drastically in China.

Apple has quietly introduced discounted prices for its newest iPhone models on their official website starting today, Monday (15/1/2024). This promotion is valid from January 18 to January 21 ahead of the Chinese New Year celebrations.

The price of the iPhone 15 series in China has been cut to 500 Yuan or around IDR 1 million. The discount is equivalent to 5% of the original price of the iPhone 15 series in China.

Apple usually cuts prices on its gadgets ahead of Chinese New Year, which this year falls in February. However, this discount is quite surprising considering that Apple has never discounted the price of its newest iPhone in recent years.

The price of the iPhone 15 series in China was previously cut at the end of October last year, but not by Apple directly but by retail partners such as Pinduoduo and Taobao. In fact, the discount offered is up to IDR 2 million cheaper than Apple’s official price.

This year’s discount covers many iPhone variants, from the iPhone 13 which is two years old to the iPhone 15 Pro Max which is only a few months old.

Apple is also offering discounted prices on other devices including the MacBook Air, some iPad models, some AirPod models, and the Apple Watch SE. The price of the MacBook Air in China has even been discounted by up to 700 Yuan or around Rp. 1.7 million, as quoted from Bloomberg, Monday (15/1/2024).

Discounts for the iPhone 15 series were announced when consumers in China prefer local cellphones, such as cellphones made by Huawei. Not to mention that the Chinese government is also starting to tighten the use of iPhones and other foreign cellphones in several government organizations.

Analysts from Jefferies recently revealed that iPhone sales in China in 2023 will fall by 30%. iPhone sales in China are also predicted to fall by double digits during 2024 and this will not be helped by the launch of the iPhone 16 series.

Apple Expands Find My App to 32 Devices

Apple has quietly increased the number of devices users can track with its Find My app, doubling the previous limit from 16 to 32 devices.

This change was first discovered by Nicolas Alveraz (@nicolas09F9) in an Apple support document as reported by TechViral from Gizmochina, Tuesday (16/1/2024).

These updated limits apply to a wider range of devices than before, including AirTags, Apple headphones (including some Beats models), newer MagSafe wallets, and even third-party Find My network accessories like e-bikes.

It’s worth noting that some AirPods models count as multiple items in Find My. Regular AirPods and first-generation AirPods Pro count as two items, while second-generation AirPods Pro count as three items due to their ability to track the charging case individually.

This tracking limit increase likely addresses concerns from some users who hit the previous 16-item limit quickly, especially with the introduction of AirTags and the expansion of the Find My network to third-party devices.

Adding new devices to Find My remains easy. For example, add an AirTag by holding it to your iPhone, tapping the pop-up that appears, choosing a name, then registering it with your Apple ID.

The limits of the updated My Find feature are currently visible in Apple’s support documents, but have not been officially announced by the company. Nonetheless, this is a welcome change for users who rely on the Find My network to track their stuff.

Find My’s expanded limits are a welcome change for Apple users who rely on the app to track their stuff.

This provides greater flexibility and peace of mind, knowing that more of your important items can be easily found if they are misplaced or even forgotten.

Rumors that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be able to upgrade to 8GB RAM

The iPhone 16 series will be launched in the second half of 2024 bringing a number of improvements. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, which are the standard variants, will also get a number of upgrades, including more RAM.

According to analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will get a RAM upgrade to 8GB. This is a significant increase from the 6GB RAM on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

If this rumor is true, then all iPhone 16 variants will have 8GB RAM. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max should still use 8GB RAM following the previous generation.

Apart from that, Pu claims that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be powered by the A18 chipset, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will use the A18 Pro chip. This is the first time the standard variant of the iPhone will use the A18 chip which is made with 3nm fabrication.

Specifically for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, Pu said that these two devices will use the Qualcomm X75 modem. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will use the Qualcomm X70 modem.

Currently all variants of the iPhone 15 series use the Qualcomm X70 modem. If Pu’s report is accurate, Apple will likely differentiate the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro variants based on the modem used, and it is possible that the 5G speed between the two phones will be different, as quoted from 9to5Mac, Monday (15/1/2024).

Pu also claims the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will support Wi-Fi 6E, which is currently only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Wi-Fi 6E is claimed to have faster connections, lower latency, and improved network performance.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will likely support Wi-Fi 7. This 7th generation wireless network was only officially announced last week.

Apart from upgrades to improve network performance and quality, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will also get a main camera upgrade from 12 MP to 48 MP. Previous rumors stated that these two variants would be equipped with an Action Button, a feature previously only available on the iPhone 15 Pro.

This Unique Casing Brings the iPhone a BlackBerry Flavor

The days when the BlackBerry was the dream smartphone are long gone, but perhaps some still miss it. Well, a new case for the iPhone brings one of BlackBerry’s most beloved features, namely a physical keyboard.

It’s called Clicks, created by a company founded by two famous content creators, namely Michael Fisher (MrMobile) and Kevin Michaluk (CrackBerry Kevin). Clicks is basically a physical keyboard for the iPhone.

Clicks can be ordered for USD 139 for the standard iPhone and USD 159 for the larger iPhone. This Clicks keyboard has a bold design. The flagship color, BumbleBee, is bright yellow which contrasts nicely with the black keyboard. The casing is made of silicone to make it easier to insert the iPhone and also easy to hold.

Clicks doesn’t require Bluetooth or batteries to operate, relying solely on iPhone power. Indeed, this iPhone casing makes the device very tall like a remote. The good news, quoted by Tech Viral from CNN, Friday (12/1/2024), is that the button is easy to click and is large enough to be easy to press.

The keyboard position is a bit odd. Users have to slide their hands down slightly to put it on. However, it is likely that users will eventually get used to it.

By using a physical keyboard, users will get more screen space. That’s because when it’s plugged in, iOS knows not to show the virtual keyboard when tapping the typeable area.

Presumably, this case is suitable for those who are big fans of physical keyboards and want one on their iPhone. If you miss the days of texting with a BlackBerry keyboard or aren’t a fan of virtual keyboards, this case might be for you.
