The iPhone 16 series will be launched in the second half of 2024 bringing a number of improvements. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, which are the standard variants, will also get a number of upgrades, including more RAM.

According to analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will get a RAM upgrade to 8GB. This is a significant increase from the 6GB RAM on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

If this rumor is true, then all iPhone 16 variants will have 8GB RAM. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max should still use 8GB RAM following the previous generation.

Apart from that, Pu claims that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be powered by the A18 chipset, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will use the A18 Pro chip. This is the first time the standard variant of the iPhone will use the A18 chip which is made with 3nm fabrication.

Specifically for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, Pu said that these two devices will use the Qualcomm X75 modem. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will use the Qualcomm X70 modem.

Currently all variants of the iPhone 15 series use the Qualcomm X70 modem. If Pu’s report is accurate, Apple will likely differentiate the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro variants based on the modem used, and it is possible that the 5G speed between the two phones will be different, as quoted from 9to5Mac, Monday (15/1/2024).

Pu also claims the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will support Wi-Fi 6E, which is currently only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Wi-Fi 6E is claimed to have faster connections, lower latency, and improved network performance.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will likely support Wi-Fi 7. This 7th generation wireless network was only officially announced last week.

Apart from upgrades to improve network performance and quality, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will also get a main camera upgrade from 12 MP to 48 MP. Previous rumors stated that these two variants would be equipped with an Action Button, a feature previously only available on the iPhone 15 Pro.
